Global Alliance Formed to Standardize Parking Data
Three major parking associations join forces to develop an international parking data standard
-news: Press release March 9, 2022: ISO Adoption ---
The Alliance for Parking Data Standards (APDS), formed in 2018 by the International Parking and Mobility Institute (IPMI), the British Parking Association (BPA), and the European Parking Association (EPA), is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to develop, promote, manage, and maintain a uniform global standard that will allow organizations to share parking data across platforms worldwide.
The Release 1.0 technical documents covering the draft standard for the Data Domains, Parking Place, Rate and Occupancy model is available. The documents contain Data Model, Use Cases and Data Dictionary. They provide much more detail on the standard outlined in the Overview document. To manage the distribution of the technical documents effectively and ensure feedback is collected and collated, each individual/organization is asked to request the documents via an online form. You find this form on the website of the Alliance for Parking Data Standards (APDS)
What will parking data standards accomplish? Creating a consensus-built international standard will establish a common language for data elements and definitions in the parking, transportation, and mobility sector that will facilitate seamless integration, compatibility, and communication between parking entities, the automotive industry, IT developers, map and app providers, as well as other stakeholders.
The Alliance data standard will cover the full range of parking data elements, including parking location information and transactions, pricing, and occupancy/utilization.
Chaired by EPA Board Member Nigel Williams, the Alliance Board of Directors will include members from each of the three founding associations.
